Mick Imlah has won the £10,000 Forward Prize for Best Collection with only his second collection of poetry, as announced yesterday, National Poetry Day. The Lost Leader (Faber) is Imlah’s first collection for 20 years.
Kathryn Simmonds won the £5,000 Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection for Sunday at the Skin Launderette (Seren) and Don Paterson won the £1,000 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem in memory of Michael Donaghy, for Love Poem For Natalie 'Tusja' Beridze.
Paterson’s debut collection, Nil Nil (Faber), won the best first collection award in 1993.
The highly commended poems from all the entries for this year’s Forward Prizes are collated in an anthology, Forward Book of Poetry 2009 (Faber, 9th October, £8.99).
