Octopus imprint Ilex has appointed journalist Richard Collins as its new commissioner for photography and tech.
Collins is currently deputy editor of Practical Photography and has been at Bauer Publishing since 2002, following a photography degree and a career as a photographer. He begins his Ilex role on 28th October, reporting to Octopus publisher Alison Starling.
Ilex publishes practical photography books with a list aimed at an international market. Its team of authors include Michael Freeman and it recently published its first two photography titles in partnership with Tate.
Starling said: “We’re delighted that Richard has agreed to bring his creativity, photography expertise and obvious passion for the subject to Octopus. He has an impressive grasp of the what today’s photographer is looking for – plus invaluable experience of working with sales and marketing teams to make sure that market is reached.”
Collins added: “I am incredibly excited to join Ilex Octopus at this fascinating time in photography publishing. I look forward to bringing my knowledge of the subject to bear and to working with the leading exponents of the art to produce books that will educate and inspire the modern photographer.”
