Icon Books has bought forward the paperback publication of Harry's Last Stand by Harry Leslie Smith, following his speech at the Labour Party Conference today (24th September).
The speech, praising the role of the NHS, was met with two standing ovations from conference delegates, with MPs including shadow health secretary Andy Burnham openly crying at the 91-year-old's words.
Harry Leslie Smith, a Second World War veteran who grew up in a Barnsley slum, first came to attention in November 2013 for his Guardian piece, "This year, I will wear a poppy for the last time".
Icon published Harry Last's Stand: How the World my Generation Built is Falling Down, and What we can do to Save it, which combines memoirs of his early life with political activism, in June this year. The paperback edition was planned for 23rd October, but will now be released on 2nd October, priced at £8.99.
At the conference, he said: "Today, we must be vigilant, we must be vocal, we must demand that the NHS must always remain an institution for the people and by the people. We must never ever let the NHS free from our grasp, because of we do, your future will be my past… So say it loud and say in clear in this hall and across this country, Mr Cameron, keep your mitts my NHS."
