Ian Miller dies

Ian Miller, former bookseller and one-time director of The Book Trade Benevolent Society, now the Book Trade Charity (BTBS), has died.

Miller began in the book trade as an assistant at Mowbray's in 1949 and over a long career worked as personnel manager for Hudsons and as personnel and training manager for the bookselling and publishing division at Pentos. Later, as a training consultant, he worked for book trade companies including Church of Scotland Bookshops, Wesley Owen, David Flatman, Whitakers, Parks and Sussex Stationers.

For six years he was director of the Book Trade Benevolent Society, and he was also co-author, with Deborah Elliott and Philip Grey, of Teach Yourself Bookselling (Teach Yourself Books, 1990).

Miller retired in 1997.

The funeral will be held on Friday 3rd May at 1.45pm at The Church of St Michael and All Angels, Amersham-on-the-Hill, Buckinghamshire.
