Hutchinson will publish a new novel, Malibu Rising by US author Taylor Jenkins Reid, who won the Goldsboro Glass Bell Award this summer for her sixth novel Daisy Jones & The Six (Ballantine Books, 2019).
The Cornerstone imprint acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Julian Alexander at The Soho Agency, on behalf of Abigail Koons at Park & Fine (New York). The title will be published in hardback, e-book and audio on 27th May 2021.
Set against the Malibu surf culture of the 1980s, Malibu Rising focuses on four famous siblings who throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of 24 hours, their lives will change forever, as each has to choose what they will keep from the people who made them, and what they will leave behind.
The publisher commented: "Every now and then, a book will come along with an energy that is just electric, a book that you can’t put down because you don’t want to tear yourself away from the world the author has created. Malibu Rising has that quality in spades. It’s got the same evocative, sun-drenched sense of setting that made Daisy Jones & The Six the perfect escapist read—and in Nina, we have a flawed but irresistible heroine that readers will fall in love with. Nobody reveals the cracks in people quite like Taylor does, and with Malibu Rising, she has truly surpassed herself. There are so many layers in the writing to uncover, but the reading experience is just effortless. Any fan of Daisy Jones & The Six will adore Malibu Rising."
Reid said: "It has been such an incredible experience to be published in the UK by Hutchinson. I am thrilled to embark on the journey again, this time with the story of the Riva family in my newest book, Malibu Rising."
Daisy Jones & The Six is being adapted for Amazon TV. The series will be produced by Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine and released in 2021.
