Hurst is to publish Brian Klaas' second book, The Despot's Apprentice: Donald Trump's Attack on Democracy.
The book will explain why the first year of the Trump administration "may be the harbinger of worse things to come", according to the publisher, which said: "Following Brian's swift rise as one of the leading critics of Trump, particularly on social media where his followers exceed 100K, Hurst is publishing this urgent book which covers events up to and including Sept 2017, making it one the most up-to-date on the controversial president".
Publisher and m.d. Michael Dwyer, who commissioned the book, said: "Given Klaas’s deserved reputation as an expert on dictatorships and dodgy elections, along with his first-hand experience of US political campaigns, we thought him ideally placed to explain to readers why the first year of the Trump administration may be the harbinger of worse things to come, as a cornered incumbent lashes out wildly, borrowing from the playbook of strongmen and autocrats worldwide."
Klaas is a fellow in Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics, where he focuses on democratisation and political violence. He is the author of The Despot's Accomplice: How the West is Aiding and Abetting the Decline of Democracy (Hurst), which will be published as an updated paperback in February 2018.
The Despot's Apprentice will be published on 7th December. The book will be published by Skyhorse in North America, and Hurst in the rest of world.
