Irish non-fiction publisher Maverick House has snapped up the rights to the autobiography of the man known as the "Human Spider", Frenchman Alain Robert.
Maverick House editorial director John Mooney acquired With Bare Hands: the True Story of Alain Robert, the Human Spider from Blackstock Books, Hong Kong for a five-figure sum. Publication is set for September 2008. "Alain has achieved the impossible, and is an inspiration to many," said Maverick House m.d. Jean Harrington. "We anticipate that With Bare Hands will be the extreme sports book of the year."
Promotional plans include launch events in both the UK and Ireland, a nationwide publicity campaign including radio and television appearances, interviews with the national press and signing sessions at leading bookshops.
Robert, 45, has climbed more than 80 of the world's tallest buildings without ropes, and was the subject of a recent Channel 4 documentary that pulled in 2.5 million viewers.
