H&S buys Ee from Amazon

Hodder & Stoughton has acquired fantasy thriller Angelfall by Susan Ee, a novel originally self-published before being released by Amazon Children's Publishing in the US.

Editorial director Kate Howard bought British Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, for Angelfall and two further books in the Penryn and the End of Days series from Amazon Publishing through the Teri Tobias Agency.

Angelfall is set six weeks after the angels of the apocalypse have destroyed the world as we know it, and follows 17-year-old Penryn as she attempts to rescue her sister from enemy angels.

Howard said: "The buzz for Angelfall is already huge. Originally self-published as an e-book, Susan Ee's fantasy novel was released in the US by Amazon Children's Publishing last year and has become a massive hit, picking up 8,000 five-star reader reviews across Goodreads and Amazon, Goodreads gifs and fan-created websites."

H&S published the title in e-book format yesterday [11th April], and will release it in paperback on 23rd May. The second book will follow in the autumn.
