H&S acquires Misery Bear title

Hodder & Stoughton has acquired world rights to the first title from BBC Comedy web hit Misery Bear.

H&S publisher Lisa Highton bought Misery Bear's Guide to Love & Heartbreak from Roughcut TV. The title will be written by Nat Saunders and Chris Hayward, who created the Misery Bear series for the BBC. The videos follow the "world's most lonely, depressed and pathetic teddy bear" as he tries to find love, and have received over a million hits across the BBC website and YouTube, according to the publisher.

The book will be a collection of thoughts, stories, poems, photographs, cartoons, diary entries, top 10 lists, recipes and illustrations.

Highton said: "I'm only publishing this; I'm not going on a date with him."

Hodder will publish as a 62-page, full-colour, £12.99 hardback in October this year.
