HQ scoops 'tear-jerking' Henley love story in two-book deal

HQ has scooped a “tear-jerking” love story by Amelia Henley, a pen name of thriller writer Louise Jensen, in a two-book deal.

Publishing director Manpreet Grewal acquired world English rights for The Life We Almost Had and one other novel from Rory Scarfe at The Blair Partnership. The first book will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in July 2020.

Its blurb states: "Anna wasn’t looking for love when Adam swept her off her feet, but something happens that changes everything, and Adam is lost to Anna. Anna is determined to find a way back to Adam, but there is a hefty price to pay for her chance to start over. So she must decide: is a second chance at first love worth the sacrifice?"

Grewal said: "Readers are crying out for beautiful, emotional and tear-jerking love stories and that’s exactly what The Life We Almost Had is. It’s an impossibly romantic novel that will make readers wonder what might happen if they had the chance for a do-over with their first love. It’s been a pleasure working with Louise on her thrillers, and I’m over the moon that we have further books to collaborate on, under the Amelia Henley name."

As Jensen, the author has been a bestselling thriller writer, with her novels translated into 25 languages. Through the TCM she has sold 112,827 books for just under £500k, with bestseller The Sister (Sphere) shifting 45,105 copies. She will continue to write thrillers but The Life We Almost Had is her women’s fiction début.

She said: "It’s been a long-standing dream of mine to publish an emotional, tear-jerking story. I'm thrilled The Life We Almost Had will soon be in the hands of readers and even more delighted to be embarking on this exciting new adventure with Manpreet and the fabulous team at HQ."

Scarfe added: "Louise has won an army of fans around the world with her masterful psychological thrillers, selling well over a million copies and counting. Now, with this heart-breaking, high-concept love story, I know that Louise writing as Amelia Henley is going to blow us away all over again and in HQ she remains with the perfect partner."
