HQ will publish three more books from The Guilty Party author Mel McGrath.
The first book on the new contract, Two Wrongs, follows a woman who has never told her adopted child the truth about her origins, being faced with an opportunity to seek justice on her behalf. “The psychological thriller asks whether revenge can ever be right, and combines a sharp point of view and controversial subject matter with an edge-of-your-seat plot,” HQ said.
Commissioning editor Clio Cornish negotiated world English language rights for the three books from Georgia Garrett at Rogers, Coleridge & White.
Two Wrongs will be published by HQ in 2020, with the following two titles planned for 2021 and 2022.
McGraths’s first thriller with the HarperCollins imprint, Give Me the Child (2017), asked whether a child can be held accountable for evil acts and became an international bestseller. The Guilty Party, focused on about four friends witness a stranger in trouble and was published in hardback in March with the paperback due for release this June.
McGrath is co-founder of Killer Women crime writing festival in London and an award-winning writer of fiction and non-fiction. She writes the acclaimed Edie Kiglatuk series of Arctic mysteries, published by Pan Macmillan, twice longlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger and Times and currently in development for a TV series.
Cornish said: “Mel has a knack for getting to the darkest kernels of human behavior and exploring the consequences, without ever sacrificing the pace or tension of her thrillers. Working with her is a delight and a privilege, and we at HQ are extremely excited about continuing to build her name – so I’m thrilled to have signed three more books with which we will do just that.”
McGrath said: “I am so excited to continue to work with Clio Cornish and the terrific, dynamic team at HQ.”
