HQ Digital has landed two books from dark women’s fiction writer Samantha King.
Acting head of HQ Digital, Belinda Toor, acquired world all language rights from Eugenie Furniss of 42 Management and Production. The first book The Secret Keeper’s Daughter will be published in e-book and audiobook in September 2021 with the paperback to follow in December 2021.
It is described by the publisher as "a dark family drama about the perils of motherhood and the secrets that lurk just out of sight". It follows young mother Holly Mayhew as she grows convinced that her daughter Marley is hiding something. Unable to connect with her daughter, Holly creates a worry box where Marley posts messages each day. Over seven days, Marley posts seven notes, all leading to one devastating family secret.
Toor said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Samantha to HQ Digital. The Secret Keeper’s Daughter is phenomenally paced, character-driven story, packed with twists and turns. It explores the darker side of human relationships. Samantha’s previous training as a psychotherapist makes her the perfect person to tell it.”
King added: “The Secret Keeper's Daughter was inspired by deeply personal experiences as a mother and a daughter, and from my very first conversation with Belinda Toor, I loved how intuitively she connected with Holly’s story. I knew it was in the best hands with her and the whole HQ Digital team - and so it has proved to be! I can’t wait for readers to meet Holly and discover the dark secrets within her family.”
