Head of Zeus has signed two books from debut novelist Clare Carson in six-figure pre-empt.
Laura Palmer, editorial director of fiction at Head of Zeus pre-empted world rights all languages for two books in a deal struck with Oli Munson of A M Heath.
The first novel, titled Orkney Twilight, is the story of a daughter determined to discover the truth about her father, an undercover policeman, and is set in the island of Orkney.
Palmer said: “From the very first sentence, I knew I had to buy this tense, thoughtful and completely original thriller. I read it overnight and the next morning went straight to A M Heath to tell Oli in person that I wasn't leaving until we had a deal. An hour later, we did.”
Head of Zeus will publish Orkney Twilight in hardback in January 2015, with an early e-book in December of this year.
The publisher has also signed a non-fiction title about dating, originally published through the Andrew Lownie Literary Agency's Thistle programme.
Head of Zeus’ c.e.o Amanda Ridout bought UK and Commonwealth rights, including Canada, in the former, titled Raven: My Year of Dating Dangerously, from Andrew Lownie.
The book, written by 60-year-old journalist Monica Porter, was previously self-published through Thistle. It chronicles her experiences of trying internet dating last year following the break up of her 13-year-long relationship and being approached by men in their 20s. Her memoir was serialised in the Mail on Sunday in March and she continues to appear in newspapers, magazines and on TV and radio in the UK, Australia and the US.
Head of Zeus repackaged Raven as an e-book, available now and a paperback will be published on the 1st May 2014.
