Jon Howells will join Riot Communications PR agency in the role of campaigns director from next week.
Howells, former head of PR and brand communications at Waterstones, will begin his new role at Riot on Monday (9th February).
Riot m.d Anwen Hooson described Howells, who has worked on several brand campaigns such as Waterstones 11 and Picture This, as “one of the industry’s true creatives”.
She said: "Jon has an uncanny knack of being able to devise exciting, multi-layered and commercially-savvy campaigns that command headlines and generate sales. Add to this his vast knowledge about the publishing business, and you'll understand why we are so excited that Jon will be joining the Riot team."
Howells said he had worked closely with Riot on many campaigns, calling the team “creative and effective.”
“I am therefore proud and thrilled to become a part of the Riot story, helping it to continue delivering campaigns of the outstanding quality that it has become synonymous with. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
In addition to Howells’ hiring, the agency is currently recruiting a campaigns executive.
Both positions are initially temporary, helping to cover two maternity leaves at the agency – that of Hooson herself, who will leave mid-April, and of Senior Campaigns Manager, Alice Ingall, who will leave end-March.
Howells left Waterstones along with PR brand communications manager Fiona Allen last May after the chain’s m.d James Daunt said the company had “changed” and would operate communications in a more decentralised fashion.
