Laura Hough has been promoted to deputy m.d. at Simon & Schuster Children's UK.
Previously sales and brand director, Hough steps into the newly created role as several more positions are generated across marketing, PR and sales, to support growth in the children's division.
She will report directly to m.d. Rachel Denwood, and will work closely with her on the overall growth strategy for the list. She will also retain her sales responsibilities while broadening her remit across marketing and publicity.
Commenting on the promotion, Denwood said: “Laura thoroughly deserves this promotion to deputy managing director. She is an exemplary leader in our business and personifies everything that’s great about Simon & Schuster Children’s Books: tenacious and dedicated, bold and creative – Laura cares deeply about our authors’ and illustrators’ success and happiness. I am absolutely delighted that she is taking on this wider strategic role as we grow our publishing and our brilliant team.”
Hough has held senior sales positions at S&S for over seven years, and previously worked at PRH and Macmillan. At S&S, her retailer relationships and strategic brand-planning have been "instrumental" in growing key brands and authors including Supertato, Dork Diaries, Michelle Harrison and Ben Miller. She said: “After many years in the Simon & Schuster sales team, I am thrilled to be taking on this wider role and excited to be working even more closely with [marketing and publicity director] Sarah Macmillan and her talented marketing and PR team to deliver growth, and reach as many child readers as we possibly can for our incredible authors and illustrators.”
