Hot Key Books, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, will publish five further titles in Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes series, which follows Sherlock Holmes’ detective sister.
The first in the series, Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess, was originally published in the US in 2007 by Penguin Young Readers and was re-published by Hot Key in 2020 to tie into a film adaptation starring Millie Bobbie-Brown.
The remaining five titles in the series, The Case of the Left-Handed Lady, The Case of the Bizarre Bouquet, The Case of the Peculiar Pink Fan, The Case of the Cryptic Crinoline and The Case of the Gypsy Goodbye were all published in the US between 2007 and 2010 and Hot Key will re-publish them all in 2022.
Maurice Lyon, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights, excluding USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, from Laura Williams of Greene & Heaton in conjunction with Jennifer Weltz of Jean V Naggar Literary Agency in New York.
Lyon said: "Enola Holmes is a wonderfully modern hero, a young woman alone in a hostile Victorian London. These exciting and clever mysteries show her determinedly resisting efforts to make her conform to expectations of female behaviour and using her phenomenal ingenuity and daring to outwit even her brother, the great detective Sherlock Holmes. Hot Key is proud to bring these highly entertaining books to young UK readers for the first time."
Springer commented: "I think Enola Holmes would say this: 'It is exceedingly gratifying to be restored, as it were, to my very own homeland.' I know that I, her author, am delighted to be published in the United Kingdom."
