UK sales for Francesca Simon's Horrid Henry series have hit 17m, Orion has announced.
The figure includes Commonwealth sales and sales through channels including school book clubs. Nielsen BookScan figures, which started four years after the series began in 1994, have hit 7.7m.
Lisa Milton, Orion trade m.d., said Horrid Henry was adored by generations of children, praising Tony Ross' "distinctive illustrations" and the "unique" voice created by audio reader Miranda Richardson. "But it is Francesca's rare skill as an author, tapping into the imp in everyone that has created characters who are household names and books that are modern classics," she said.
Orion held a party at London's Ivy restaurant last night (7th September) to celebrate publication of the 20th Horrid Henry book, Horrid Henry and the Zombie Vampire.
