Holliday Grainger has been confirmed as the narrator of Girl A (HarperCollins), the hotly tipped debut novel by Abigail Dean.
The “Strike” star will give voice to the story of Lex Gracie, the girl who escaped her parents’ house of horrors.
Grainger was cast by audio editorial director Fionnuala Barrett and the audiobook will be released alongside the hardback and e-book on 21st January.
Grainger is an English screen and stage actress whose work includes “Animals”, opposite Alia Shawkat, for which she was nominated for a Best Actress (British Independent Film Awards), and the Emmy-nominated series “Patrick Melrose”, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.
She said: “I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to voice Lex’s story. Girl A is an incredible tale of survival and hope, and I know it’s going to be huge next year. I hope people enjoy listening to the audiobook as much as I enjoyed recording it.”
Rights to Girl A have been sold in 27 territories, with Sony Pictures Entertainment adapting for TV, directed by Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”). The book has received advance praise from authors including Paula Hawkins, Jessie Burton, Chris Whitaker, Louise O’Neill and Sophie Hannah.
Its synopsis explains: “When Lex Gracie’s mother dies in prison and leaves Lex and her siblings the family home, she can’t run from her past any longer. Together with her sister, Evie, Lex intends to turn the House of Horrors into a force for good. But first she must come to terms with her six siblings - and with the childhood they shared. Beautifully written and incredibly powerful, Girl A is a story of redemption, of horror, and of love.”
Dean said: “I couldn't be happier that Holliday will be Girl A's audiobook narrator. I love her work, from 'Animals' to 'My Cousin Rachel', and I know that she'll truly bring Lex and the Gracie family to life.”
