Edward Hogan has won the second £10,000 Desmond Elliott Prize for his debut novel Blackmoor (Simon & Schuster). The announcement was made this evening (24th June).
The prize was set up in honour of publisher and literary agent Desmond Elliott, who died in 2003, to support new writers and to celebrate their fiction.
Candida Lycett Green, chair of the judges, said: "In a shortlist of exceptional quality Blackmoor stands out. For a first novel it is both beautifully crafted and dazzlingly well-written."
The other shortlisted titles were A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi (Fourth Estate) and The Rescue Man by Anthony Quinn (Jonathan Cape).
