Hodder & Stoughton is asking fans of Stephen King to help it reveal the cover for the author’s forthcoming novel, Revival.
The publisher has teamed up with digital creative agency Smack Agency to run a “crowd-sourced” cover reveal, titled #RevealREVIVAL.
Fans need to visit Stephen King’s Facebook page and share the Revival app. Once a certain number of likes, comments and shares are generated, one square of the cover will be revealed.
After the cover has been completely revealed, it will become animated, with users able to unlock additional content, including Twitter skins and Facebook cover photos.
The reveal “places Stephen King’s loyal fan base at the heart of social media activity”, said Hodder & Stoughton.
Revival, King’s second novel of 2014, is a story about addiction, religion, music and what might exist on the other side of life.
It will be released on 11th November.
The cover reveal is similar to HarperCollins' promotion for Lorraine Pascale's latest cookbook, How to be a Better Cook (published 11th September), which was released one segment at a time on picture-sharing site Instagram. Each picture teasing a recipe from the forthcoming book, generating more than 2,000 likes on Instagram and a further 3,000 likes on Facebook.
