Hodder signs 'farming hero' Bomford

Hodder & Stoughton is to publish the life story of an 82-year-old woman chosen as Farming Hero 2015 by BBC’s “Countryfile”.

Joan Bomford, who lives near Evesham in Worcestershire, has been farming since the 1930s.

She is still active on the farm, driving tractors, feeding the farm’s beef cattle and horses, and giving riding lessons.

Non-fiction publisher Rupert Lancaster acquired world rights, including serial, to Up with the Lark: A Life on the Land, direct from the author.

At the ceremony where Bomford was given her award, “Countryfile” presenter Adam Henson told her: “You’re an inspiration. When I whinge about a few things going on in my life, and I look at the way you’ve just ploughed on and got on with it, you’re a real force to be reckoned with.”

Hodder will publish Up with the Lark: A Life on the Land in hardback and e-book on 24th September this year.
