Hodder pays six figure sum for two from Geraghty

Hodder & Stoughton, along with Hachette Books Ireland, has bought rights to two new novels by Irish fiction author Ciara Geraghty for a "significant six figure sum".

The deal for British Commonwealth rights including Ireland was between Hodder, HBI and Geraghty’s agent Ger Nichol of The Book Bureau and is for the author’s fifth and sixth novels.

Hodder and HBI have published Geraghty since 2008, with her second novel, Becoming Scarlett, due for B-format paperback publication in the UK for the first time on 12th May.

The first new book in the deal, Finding Mr Flood, will be published in B-format paperback in the UK and Ireland on 13th October. The publisher said it will advertise the novel on television around publication. A release date for the second novel as part of the deal has yet to be revealed.

Carolyn Mays, publishing director at Hodder, said: "I’m thrilled that we have a new deal with Ciara and Hodder is very excited to be publishing this amazing talent in women’s fiction. Ciara is a writer who deserves genuine comparison to Marian Keyes – her novels transcend the chick lit genre and make you laugh out loud as well as cry."

Breda Purdue, m.d. of HBI, said: "With three books under her belt, all published with massive bestselling success, Ciara Geraghty had firmly taken her place at the top level of women’s fiction. Aside from bestseller list and success in sales, there’s a massive word-of-mouth buzz about Ciara – among the public, the media and the trade. Ciara Geraghty’s star is on the rise."
