Hodder and Orion Children's Books are leading the way in the shortlist for the annual Independent Booksellers' Book Prize with a hat-trick of nominations each.
The shortlist of 10 adult and 12 children's books were selected by a judging panel of independent booksellers from nominations put forward by publishers.
Man Booker Prize-winning Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel (Fourth Estate) sits alongside One Day by David Nicholls (Hodder) on the adult shortlist. Bloomsbury also has two nominations with The Outlander by Gil Adamson and The Winter Vault by Anne Michaels.
On the children's shortlist, Orion's three titles comprise The Last Leopard by Lauren St John, Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick and The Silver Blade by Sally Garner. Random House Children's Books and Macmillan Children's Books also have two shortlisted titles each.
Independent bookshop customers will select the winners from votes cast in shops. Participating bookshops will showcase the shortlisted titles in special promotions which will run during Independent Booksellers' Week (14th to 21st June). Voting will run until 30th August and the winning books will be announced in September. The winners will each receive national book tokens and a framed certificate.
Last year, The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry (Faber) won the adult prize and the children's award went to Artemis Fowl and The Time Paradox by Eoin Colfer (Puffin).
