Hodder Children’s Books has acquired a new picture book from debut author-illustrator Jo Weaver, a graduate of the Cambridge school of art masters in children’s book illustration.
The Bear That Was tells the story of a year in the life of a bear and her cub as they journey through the seasons together.
Hodder picture book publisher Emma Layfield acquired the world rights from Penny Holroyde at the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.
"I am so thrilled to welcome Jo Weaver to the Hodder list,” said Layfield. “The first time I saw The Bear That Was I was in total awe of it. It is a remarkable picture book from a unique new talent and we are looking forward to publishing it far and wide.”
