Hodder & Stoughton has acquired a new book about minipigs, which it describes as "Marley and Me meets 'The Good Life' meets Babe".
Oink! My Life With Minipigs is Matt Whyman's first non-fiction book for adults and will be published in February 2011. The title is about a couple, with four children, a cat, a dog, three rabbits and four chickens, who get a minipig for a pet.
Hodder non-fiction publisher Rupert Lancaster acquired world rights in a pre-emptive deal with LAW's Julian Alexander.
Lancaster said: "This book made made me laugh out loud—and it has its darker side, too. Julian pitched it to me as Marley and Me meets 'The Good Life' meets Babe - and he's right.
"We've already sold foreign rights to the US (Simon & Schuster), Germany (Goldmann) and Italy (Sperling & Kupfer), which shows that minipigs are an international cultural phenomenon: Paris Hilton owns one (it's been on the cover of Hello magazine) and Posh and Becks have two."
Whyman has previously written novels and non-fiction for children and young adults, including Boy Kills Man (Hodder Children's Books).
