Maxine Hitchcock has been appointed to the newly-created role of editorial director at Simon & Schuster, within the publisher's adult fiction team.
Hitchcock was previously at HarperCollins for eight years, latterly as publishing director at Avon. She will report to S&S trade division publishing director Suzanne Baboneau on S&S' hardcover and trade paperback fiction list. Hitchcock said, "'m obviously sad to be saying goodbye to HarperCollins after eight happy years, but am truly excited to be joining Simon & Schuster in this new role. . .
"There is huge potential to be had and I relish the opportunity of working with Suzanne and the rest of the team to grow the Fiction list and take it to the next level.'
Baboneau said:"I know that, with her publishing flair and proven ability to manage a wide-ranging fiction list, Maxine will be a tremendous asset. She will assume management of our terrific adult fiction team and we look forward to welcoming her in November."
Maxine will work alongside Mike Jones, editorial director, non fiction, and Julie Wright, Pocket Books publisher.
