Stroud-based indie The History Press has joined forces with a local primary school to publish a new book written and illustrated by the school’s pupils.
With the help of John Dougherty, author of the Stinkbomb & Ketchup-Face series, every child at Minchinhampton C of E Primary Academy in Gloucestershire has participated in the creation of A Portal Through Time which sees characters visiting various eras in the town’s history, from the Romans right through to the Second World War.
Teacher Clare McCarron said: "All the children love writing now. As a result of the project, they have a sense of real purpose when they write and that, plus the capital to do it all again, is our lasting legacy."
Publisher for general history, Sophie Bradshaw, whose own children attend Minchinhampton Academy, said: "The History Press is thrilled to be able to help Minchinhampton Academy bring its dream of a book written by its pupils to fruition. As a local company, we believe in investing in our community, and we wish the school every success with their project."
The project was funded by arts society Young Arts/NADFAS..
A Portal Through Time is due to be launched on Saturday 10th June in Minchinhampton with copies of the book on sale at the event and through local bookshops.
