Anova imprint Pavilion and Jack Vettriano’s publishing company Heartbreak Publishing will be unveiling the beauty of body art in two tattoo titles with individual inks ranging from dragons to daisies.
Tattooed by The Family Business is filled with more than 150 colour photographs by Fredi Marcarini and Chris Terry and focuses on the work of Mo Coppoletta and his tattoo parlour The Family Business, based in London’s Exmouth Market. The book takes the reader through the creative and physical process of having a tattoo.
The trade title will be published by Pavilion as a £30 hardback on 6th September and there are plans for a limited edition of the title which will be an enlarged, handbound version published by Heartbreak. There will also be an exhibition of the artwork to accompany the release of the book, which will be organised by Heartbreak Publishing. Details are yet to be confirmed.
Emily Preece-Morrison, commissioning editor at Anova, said: “We just really thought there was a market out there for a really beautiful book on tattoos, there are a lot of tattoo books out there . . . but this will appeal to people who don’t like tattoos. Once you get past the nitty gritty of the blood and the needles it is really interesting.”
The publisher said Tattooed was as much an “inspirational design source as a peek into the private world of the tattoo parlour, its artists and clients”. The images cover every stage of getting a tattoo, from the first traces to the finished design, the characters and equipment used.
However, Preece-Morrison said the title is not aimed just at fans of body art, but also anyone who has an interest in fashion, style, music and culture. She added: “It’s a book mainly for looking at, there isn’t a lot of text as we thought it would be superfluous as the pictures speak for themselves.”
