Headline has acquired three novels by Claire McGowan.
Deputy publishing director for fiction, Vicki Mellor, bought world rights, including translation, for the books from Diana Beaumont of the Rupert Heath Literary Agency.
The novels will continue McGowan’s Paula Maguire series. The latest book in the series, The Silent Dead, will be released in late 2015.
Mellor said: “Claire McGowan is a brilliant author and one who we have long been championing on the Headline list. Her sense of place is exquisite - she showcases the Irish setting with its unique background and historic tensions masterfully - and in the fantastic Paula Maguire series I believe we have a contemporary crime series which has the potential to become a huge bestseller. Claire is a huge talent and we are delighted that we have agreed this new deal and will be able build sales strategically over the long term.”
McGowan said: “I’m so pleased I will be able to tell the rest of Paula’s story, and answer some of the long-running questions in the series.”
The BBC has optioned the Paula Maguire series for television.
Headline will publish the first of the new series in 2016 and publish McGowan’s novels annually after that.
