Headline has signed up thriller writer Quintin Jardine for a further seven novels, taking the partnership into the year 2015.
The deal, which was for an undisclosed sum and struck late last week, includes four Bob Skinner mysteries, a further two Primavera Phillips mysteries and one stand-alone crime novel called The Loner.
Headline has rights for the UK, the Commonwealth (incl Australia and New Zealand) and Europe exclusive.
The first book, part of the Bob Skinner series and entitled Fatal Last Words, is due for publication in June.
Editor Martin Fletcher, who has worked with Jardine for several years, said: "He is very well established in Scotland, but we will be pushing hard to increase sales and raise his profile in the rest of the UK.
"We want to see him sell at the same level as Ian Rankin—clearly there is a market for this kind of serious crime—and we will be pushing him as hard as we can. The long-term commitment enables us to do that."
Fletcher described Jardine as an "exceptional plotter" whose characters were "vivid" and "very alive".
Although promotion and publicity activities are still in the planning stages, Fletcher said Headline would be "spending a lot of money in promotion".
