Headline has acquired two books by Joan Woodcock, a nurse who has worked on the frontline in the NHS for over forty years. Carly Cook, non-fiction publisher, bought world rights from Luigi Bonomi at Bonomi Associates for a "good five figure sum".
The books recount a long and "extremely colourful" four decade career in nursing, including Woodcock’s time working in high stakes casualty units, Marie Curie cancer care and prisons.
Cook said: "Joan’s tales are a combination of warm, funny, gritty and sad. They will appeal to Jennifer Worth and Gervase Phinn fans alike."
Headline will publish the first of the as yet untitled memoirs in spring 2011.
