Headline Publishing Group will publish Take Care by debut author Chlöe Pierre, a book on mindfulness and self-care for Black women.
Pierre is the Black female founder of thy.self, which she was inspired to launch in October 2018 after struggling to find a space within wellness that resonated with her, the publisher said. Her mission is to make wellness more approachable and accessible to the people that its origins are derived from, Headline added.
The synopsis for her first book explains: "Take Care is a wellness book that centres Black women and their experiences, it will be a beautifully designed hardback to find solace, comfort and joy in and will hopefully help a lot of people through difficult moments. Covering how to be your most authentic self in spaces, avoiding Black burnout, sex and body positivity for Black women, finding your sisterhood and much more, author Pierre will be consulting wellness professionals and her industry friends and peers to create the ultimate guide of wellness that challenges the whitewashed narrative."
Katie Packer, commissioning editor, acquired world rights directly from the author and will be working with Ebyan Egal, studio manager at Headline, as co-editors. They said: "We are so unbelievably excited that Ebyan’s spark of an idea has grown into a fully fledged book that will hopefully bring so much joy and comfort to Black women the world over. This is a dream project to work on and Chloe is the best possible author for it."
Pierre said: "It's an absolute privilege to be able to serve my communities with a dedicated book to self-care and wellness in a way which hasn't been done before but even more of an honour to be able to work with incredible women across the globe to discuss, share and empower every generation alive and those to come with the healing power of wellness – which really does work, especially when put in the context of what we have done with this guide. By Black women, for Black women – prioritising our health, humanity, existence and our power... now and forever."
Take Care will be published in hardback on 20th January 2022.
