HarperCollins Children's Books has signed two deals, with a new trilogy from reality star Lauren Conrad, and a licensing deal for the tie-in to the new Transformers movie.
Brand development manager Richard Haines signed a deal for English-language rights to the Transformers: Dark of the Moon tie-in publishing with Hasbro, with plans to publish a junior novel, ultimate guide and an activity book in June 2011 ahead of the UK film release on 29th June. An annual will also be published in September 2011 to coincide with the film's release on DVD.
Haines said: "Transformers is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and I am delighted that we can work with Hasbro once again on the third film. The film is sure to be a massive hit this summer and we are looking forward to publishing the official tie-in books." The film will star Shia LaBeouf and model Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley.
Meanwhile, fiction publishing director Rachel Denwood has acquired a YA trilogy by star of reality show "The Hills", and LA Candy trilogy author, Lauren Conrad. Denwood bought UK rights were bought from Jean McGinley at HarperCollins US.
The launch title, The Fame Game, will be published in April 2012 in hardback, with the series focusing on Madison Parker, who also stars in the LA Candy books, as she tries to grab her moment in the spotlight.
Denwood said: "We're thrilled that Lauren Conrad has made fame-craving, thrillingly ruthless Madison Parker the star of her own series. A hugely popular character from LA Candy, Madison is going to take her mean-girl status to another level in the most addictive, sensational YA read of 2012."
