HarperCollins' financial performance remains unclear with parent NewsCorp continuing its policy of not reporting the publisher's financial results.
In the media giant's latest set of figures, for the quarter ending 30th September, it said its publishing segment, which includes HC as well as Rupert Murdoch's newspaper businesses, had its operating income fall 38% to $110m (£69.1m). Sales across the segment increased from $2.05bn (£1.29bn) in 2010 to $2.07bn (£1.30bn) in 2011.
Across the entire business, sales increased 7% to $7.96bn (£5.00bn). Operating income rose 21% to $1.39bn (£87.3m).
NewsCorp has not stripped out HarperCollins' results since April 2010.
