HarperCollins will publish the first co-written novel from Wilbur Smith in September this year.
The book, titled Golden Lion, will be co-written by historical fiction author Giles Kristian.
Golden Lion will revisit one of Smith's best-known series, following the adventures of the Courtney family, with hero Hal Courtney at the centre. It will be set in east Africa.
Smith said: "For the past few years my fans have made it very clear that they would like to read my novels and revisit my family of characters faster than I can write them. Giles Kristian writes with imagination and has helped me bring some of my beloved characters back to life."
Smith's last novel Desert God, was published by HarperCollins in autumn 2014. He moved to the publisher in 2012 in a deal for six books, after 34 books with Pan Macmillan. The deal for world English language rights was done by Kate Elton and Katie Espiner with Kevin Conroy Scott of Tibor Jones and Associates.
