HC to publish Bing TV tie-in books

HarperCollins Children’s Books is to publish a series of new Bing books to tie in with the TV series.

The TV show stars Bing Bunny and his constant companion Flop, best friend Sula and cousins Coco and Baby Charlie. The TV series, made by Acamar Films and shown on CBeebies, was launched in the UK in June, and is based on a series of picture books by Ted Dewan.

The first books to tie-in with the show will be Smoothie and Ducks, both story books with stickers, and Bing’s Busy Day Sticker Activity Book, published 25th September. More titles will follow in 2015.

Rachel Denwood, publishing and creative director at HarperCollins Children’s Books, said it is “hugely exciting” to be the publisher of the Bing books.

“The story and activity titles take the lead from one of the most ground-breaking pre-school television launches ever and the hallmarks of quality will be echoed in all our books,” she said. “Publishing Bing is a hugely important venture for us and we believe that his appeal will endure for generations to come.”

HarperCollins will also publish two new original titles by Dewan in 2015; Bing: Yuk! (1st January) and Bing: Paint Day (7th May).

In other licensing news, Fisher Price will next year start manufacturing a series of Bing toys, including play sets, figurines, musical toys and soft toys. The deal was brokered by the Licensing Company on behalf of Acamar.
