HC launches Duck in the Truck app

<p>HarperCollins Children&#39;s Books has launched an app of Jez Alborough&#39;s<em> Duck in the Truck </em>picture book for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. </p><p>The app features animation, sound effects and read-along audio. It launches later this week and is priced &pound;1.19. The publisher will release iPhone editions of Alborough&#39;s Captain Duck and Fix-It Duck picture books later this year.</p><p><em>The Duck in the Truck </em>app will include Alborough&#39;s original artwork, with animation and the ability to touch the screen for sound effects including quacks and splashes. Readers can swipe the screen to turn the page and can choose to read along to an audio rendition, read by Harry Enfield, or read alone.</p><p>Mario Santos, managing director of HarperCollins Children&#39;s Books, said: &quot;Jez is the first major, modern day, picture book author to feature his characters on an iPhone application. We are delighted to be working with him and Stepworks, using the latest digital technology, as part of our ongoing drive to bring contemporary characters to life and to enhance the reading experience for a younger consumer through innovation and creativity.&quot;</p><p>The app has been produced by HarperCollins with Stepworks, a Hong Kong-based agency, which has developed iPhone storybooks under the Kidztory brand.</p><p>HarperCollins recently launched an iPhone edition of Hilary Mantel&#39;s <em>Wolf Hall</em> and the <em>SAS Survival Guide.</em></p>
