HarperCollins has bought world rights in The Real Lady Detective Agency, an account of a true-life all-female private detective service, written by its founder Rebecca Jane.
Natalie Jerome, publishing director for Harper Non-Fiction, bought the book from Charlotte Robertson of Aitken Alexander in association with The Arlington Enterprises. It will be published in 2013.
Jane's detective agency is run by women for women, and takes on cases from following suspected cheats on stag parties to tracking down lost cats. HC said the book would contain a "heartbreaking, hilarious and eye-opening" collection of stories.
Jerome said: "From the moment we met Rebecca we knew we had to publish her book—not only does she have the most hilarious and entertaining stories to tell from her years of running the UK's most successful all female detective agency but she is incredibly warm and bubbly and readers are going to fall in love with her."
HC will launch the book "with a bang", Jerome added.
