London street food stars the Pizza Pilgrims have been snapped up by HarperCollins following a heated auction for their first cookbook.
Carole Tonkinson, publisher for Harper NonFiction, bought world rights for Pizza Pilgrims from Diana Beaumont at Rupert Heath Literary Agency.
Pizza Pilgrims is the brainchild of brothers Thom and James Elliot, who who operate a stall at Berwick Street Market in Soho, using a half-tonne pizza oven built in the back of a van.
After giving up their day jobs, the two travelled round Italy in a three-wheeler van, learning a variety of Italian recipes. Their book will provide instructions for building your own outdoor pizza oven, as well as pizza recipes and ideas for other classic Italian dishes.
Tonkinson said: “Their food is delicious and their fun and energetic style of writing and presenting will win them huge fans. With all due respect to the Bikers and the Baker Boys, the Pilgrims are firmly on the UK food map and here to stay. We look forward to working with them and making their first book a bestseller and working alongside them to develop their brand.”
