HC buys Johnny Vegas memoir

<p>HarperCollins has bought the memoir of stand-up comedian Johnny Vegas.</p><p>Natalie Jerome, publishing director for Harper Non-Fiction, bought world rights from Paul Stevens of Independent Talent Group for an undisclosed sum.</p><p>Johnny Vegas is the stage name of Michael Pennington. The memoir will chart Pennington&#39;s life growing up in St Helens and show how the boy who entered a seminary school at 11 became the loudmouthed comic. </p><p>HarperCollins said the book will be told from the perspective of Pennington with flashes of Vegas<br />through the narrative. Jerome said: &quot;Johnny Vegas is one of the finest comedians of his generation and with his autobiography the genesis of that talent will be revealed for the very first time. His writing is both original and exciting and we are all very much looking forward to making this a big success next autumn.&quot;</p><p>Pennington said: &quot;There&rsquo;s a mythology surrounding Johnny Vegas that even I, as Michael Pennington, have struggled to differentiate between the fact and fiction at times. I am both excited and petrified at the prospect of writing yhis book. I have no interest in producing a bog-standard, stocking-filler celebrity biography.&quot;</p><p>The book, as yet untitled, will be published in autumn 2011. </p>
