The former president general of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf, Israeli ambassador Ron Prosor and South African Nobel winner Nadine Gordimer are among the international line-up for this year’s Guardian Hay Festival.

Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband will discuss via satellite the environmental issues facing the Maldives with the country's president Mohammed Nasheed.
Peter Florence, festival director, told the Guardian: "We need to be more like the premiership and realise that the best fiction writers are not always from the English-speaking world."
The festival, which takes place from 27th May-6th June, will also include appearances from Philip Pullman, Harold Evans, Antonia Fraser, Tom Stoppard, Roddy Doyle, Bill Bryson, Kazuo Ishiguro, David Eagleman, Martin Amis, Zadie Smith and Hilary Mantel.
