Crime writer Sam Hawken is to move to Mulholland Books in a joint world English deal.
Ruth Tross, editor at Mulholland Books in the UK, and Wes Miller of Mulholland Books in the US, acquired rights from Oli Munson of AM Heath to The Night Charter and a second untitled novel.
Hawken was nominated for the John Creasy New Blood Dagger award by the Crime Writers Association (CWA) for his debut The Dead Women of Juarez (Serpent’s Tail), and for the CWA for the Gold Tagger for his second novel Tequila Sunset (Serpent’s Tail.
The Night Charter is the first book in a series featuring a mysterious heroine, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, who agrees to help out in a rescue mission off the Florida coast and finds herself forced to protect innocent lives as events spiral out of control.
Tross said: “The Dead Women of Juarez was a fantastic novel and the debut of a wonderful crime writer. I’m thrilled to have the chance to publish Sam’s new series, the perfect mix of a gutsy heroine, compelling action and shocking twists. It will appeal to all his existing fans and find him many new ones.”
