Harvill Secker is following up its global bestseller Sapiens with Yuval Noah Harari’s new book Homo Deus, due to publish in September 2016.
Michal Shavit acquired UK & Commonwealth rights to Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow, from the author directly.
Pitched as a "history of the future of the human species", the book asks what will next replace famine, plague and war at the top of the human agenda, contrasting the concerns of “sapiens of the past” with 21st century advances for humankind in global commerce, the knowledge economy, medicine, IT and biotechnology.
Shavit said: “We are delighted to be publishing Yuval Noah Harari’s phenomenal follow-up to Sapiens. We read Sapiens to gain a better understanding of where we came from. Now, with Homo Deus readers can discover where humankind might be heading. It is a thrilling and thought-provoking book, that will unsettle and surprise.”
Professor Harari has a PhD in History from the University of Oxford and lectures at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specialising in World History. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind is an international bestseller published in over 35 countries and spent 24 weeks in the top ten of the Sunday Times bestseller list this year.
