Harvill Secker has acquired two more books by crime writer Eva Dolan.
Senior crime editor Alison Hennessey bought world all languages rights to books three and four of Dolan’s Zigic and Ferreira detective series from Mark Stanton at Jenny Brown Associates.
Harvill Secker published the first book in the series, Long Way Home, in January this year, with the second, Tell No Tales, publishing in January 2015. Television rights to the series have just been optioned by ITV.
The third book, yet to be named, will open with a gas explosion in a village near Peterborough, with police discovering a murdered woman in the property next door and her disabled daughter left to starve to death upstairs.
The mother had logged numerous calls in the years leading up to her murder, detailing the abuse they were encountering due to her daughter’s disability, and Zigic and Ferreira must delve deep into the family’s past – and that of the village in which they live – to find those responsible.
Hennessey said: “Publishing Long Way Home, and seeing the rapturous response it received from crime reviewers, writers and readers alike, has been one of the highlights of my year. Eva’s blend of brilliant writing, skilful plotting and engagement with serious social issues makes her a crime writer to be reckoned with, and I am thrilled to have acquired the next two books in the series; I can’t wait to see where she takes her two detectives next.”
