Harvill Secker appoints dedicated crime editor

Harvill Secker has appointed Alison Hennessey as its senior crime editor.

She will begin in the newly created role in January 2012 and joins from Vintage where she was editor and digital media executive since 2010. She will be responsible for commissioning and publishing crime novels in translation, as well as finding UK talent. Harvill Secker already publishes Henning Mankell and Jo Nesbo.

Hennessey will report to publishing director Liz Foley, who said: "We are blessed to publish writers who achieve great heights both in sales terms and in the quality of their writing and I know that Alison is going to search out equally wonderful new crime authors to join our list."

Hennessey's replacement will be announced in due course. Bodley Head editor Kay Peddle will take on her digital media executive role in addition to her editorial remit.
