Harvill Secker has acquired a memoir from non-fiction writer and Booker-shortlisted novelist Tim Parks.
Liz Foley, Harvill Secker publishing director, acquired Teach us to Sit Still: A Sceptic’s Search for Health and Healing from agent Antony Harwood.
The book charts Parks’ experiences of a mystery illness which leads him to confront difficult truths about the relationship between the mind and the body, the modern world and his life as a writer.
Publication in July 2010 will be accompanied by a major publicity and marketing campaign. Parks’ “Italian series” backlist titles will all be reissued by Vintage on 6th May, comprising An Italian Education, Italian Neighbours and A Season with Verona.
Foley said “This is a book about a life-changing experience that could change the lives of its readers.
"It manages to be both an intensely personal, and brutally honest, memoir and a universal story for our times and we believe it will take Tim Parks’ work to a whole new readership."
