Harry casts shadow over BEA

Harry Potter, the boy wizard, will cast a long shadow this weekend as nearly 30,000 booksellers, authors and publishers descend on Manhattan for BookExpo America, the industry's annual gathering, which begins today, reports USA Today.

The trade show's main focus is upcoming fall books. But the reality is that the industry is facing the end of the most remarkable publishing phenomenon in modern history. I don't know if we are ever going to see anything like Harry Potter again in children's or even adult books," says Paul Crichton of Simon & Schuster Children's Books. "Harry will be missed like there is no tomorrow. But publishers have to forge ahead and move on. What Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling have done is incredible. To lose something that strong is going to have an impact."
