HarperPress is bringing forward publication of Sherard Cowper-Coles' memoir about his time as British Afghan envoy because of the revived interest in the region following the death of Osama bin Laden.
The book, Cables from Kabul, will be published on 23rd May instead of its original publication date of 9th June.
Initial media coverage include an extract running in the Sunday Times on 22nd May and interviews with BBC Radio 4 "Start the Week" and Channel 4 news.
Cowper-Coles served in Afghanistan from 2007 until 2010, initially as British ambassador and then as the Foreign Secretary's special representative.
A HarperPress spokesperson said the book raises "fundamental questions about the viability of the whole Afghanistan project, even after the death of bin Laden".
Cowper-Coles argues the Afghanistan conflict will only be brought to an end if America is prepared to talk to its enemies and deliver the "massive political and diplomatic effort" required.
