HarperNonFiction editorial director Katya Shipster has been promoted to publishing director, overseeing the division’s lifestyle and cookery titles, including the Thorsons list.
Shipster joined HarperCollins as editorial director in 2017 and has since published a string of lifestyle, entertainment and cookery bestsellers including Angela Kelly’s The Other Side of the Coin, Felicity Cloake’s One More Croissant for the Road, the Good Housekeeping Cookbook series, Gill Sims’ Why Mummy... books, and cookery titles by Marcus Wareing. This autumn, she will publish Grace Dent’s Hungry.
She said: "It’s exciting to broaden my remit, and a huge privilege to develop the Thorsons imprint which is now over 90 years old, and continues to thrive with bestsellers including Dr Rupy Aujla, Anita Mitra, Jay Shetty and Robin Sharma. Entertainment and lifestyle books have converged, so having this wider role will enable me to explore and champion voices right across the spectrum, from new chefs and food writers, to expert personal development authors and lifestyle brands."
Thorsons will also be recruiting for the newly created role of commissioning editor.
Oli Malcolm, executive publisher for HarperNonFiction, Avon and HarperNorth, said: "We are all absolutely delighted for Katya. Her author care skills have always been second to none, but she also has a fantastic eye for emerging lifestyle and cookery titles, and we have the utmost confidence that the Thorsons imprint will flourish under her direction in this overseeing role."
