HarperCollins settles with Laing

<p>HarperCollins UK and Adrian Laing, former director of legal affairs and company secretary, have settled out of court ahead of an employment tribunal hearing scheduled for this month. Laing alleged unfair dismissal after being escorted from HC's Hammersmith headquarters last spring and accused of theft.</p><p> The terms of his contract, which was drawn up after the Chris Patten affair in 1998, meant he was due &#163;300,000 in severance payment if made redundant.
